Gabriel Barbosa, the Inter Milan striker who is currently on loan at Santos has been linked with a loan move to the Eagles in January.
The forward, who is nicknamed as ‘Gabigol’ signed for the famous Serie A side for 29.5 million pounds, but he was never able to live up to his massive price tag at the club, scoring one goal in the year that he was at the club. This poor form continued at Benfica, where his loan deal was ended abruptly 6 months in after he only featured five times for the Portuguese Giants.
Now he finds himself back at Santos, the club in which he made his name and managed to score 42 goals as a teenager. He has managed to score 24 goals since returning and has again showcased the potential he has, but his failure in Europe emphasises how much of a risk it would be for Palace to bring the 22 year old to the club.
However with Benteke reportedly injured until January, and Palace Strikers Ayew and Sorloth currently struggling in front of goal, Hodsgon may believe that a risk like this is a neccasary move for Palace to progress from a relegation battling team to a team battling for a top half position.
Barbosa could work well with Palace, it is not like they aren’t creating a lot of chances, they just need someone who can find the net, and with many missed opportunities in big games so far this season, it would be a blessing if a signing like Barbosa could be this link that Palace are missing.
